About SMETE
The SMETE Open Federation and SMETE.ORG
The SMETE Open Federation was formed to promote the teaching and learning of science, mathematics, engineering and technology at all levels. The Federation was built with funding by the National Science Foundation, National STEM Education Digital Library program and partnerships with nationally recognized professional educational organizations, academic institutions and private e-learning companies. The SMETE Open Federation community fosters the ongoing collaborative development among partner organizations, provides tools and services to support collection and service providers, and ensures stability, sustainability and scalability of the Federation's programs and projects.
The SMETE Open Federation community is characterized by:
- A whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, in which each member has a clearly focused and valued mission and all contribute to a network of premier educational resources.
- A diverse community of educators and staff who use new technologies, evaluation techniques and curricular innovations to enhance student learning.
- Active partnerships that foster ongoing collaborative development with business and industry, cultural and social organizations, and research and educational institutions to ensure stability, scalability, and sustainability.
- Learning communities that engage in universal freedom of access to knowledge.
- Communities of individuals having a common disciplinary interest.
- Leadership in establishing higher achievement in SME&T education.
The portal to the SMETE Open Federation community is SMETE.ORG. SMETE.ORG is the gateway to a comprehensive collection of science, math, engineering and technology (SMET) education content and services available to learners, educators, and academic policy-makers. By serving as the integrative organization that distributes pedagogical material through the establishment of a federation of digital libraries and providing direct access and delivery of instructional resources, SMETE.ORG meets the growing and changing needs of the participatory communities of learners and educators. A collection of collections and a community of communities – SMETE.ORG.
