Education and Outreach
To build a SMETE Digital Library that is both useful and used, it is essential to engage a broad community of SMETE educators, learners and other stakeholders in order to develop the technical and social infrastructures of the SMETE Open Federation. It is important to recognize the SMETE Digital Library is more than just a technical infrastructure; it is also a community.
The SMETE Open Federation, through is Education and Outreach program area, support the expansion and development of collections and services within and beyond the SMETE Digital Library community. We reach out to educators and learners at all levels to engage them in the use, re-use, review and development of the resources made available through the SMETE Digital Library. We support improved teaching and learning as a primary outcome of our efforts.
The primary vehicles for Education and Outreach will be workshops and focus groups at conferences and individual consulting with organizations. Using these vehicles, we can assist both the development and dissemination of content and services for the SMETE Digital Library. We will help identify the needs, priorities, and evaluations of incipient collections to identify how to make them educationally relevant for the SMETE Digital Library as well as evaluate existing collections to identify gaps, that is, materials that are needed but missing from the current collection. We can consult with service providers interested in providing their service for the SMETE Digital Library. Finally, we will educate teachers and administrators on how to use digital learning materials available from the SMETE Digital Library.
Please contact the SMETE Open Federation contact for the Education and Outreach program area, Mr. Brandon Muramatsu (mura@smete.org), for information regarding current workshops and focus groups or to schedule individual consulting.
